From 1 March 2020 – IRD are no longer accepting Cheques

We would like to remind you of IRD’s change from 1 March 2020, which may affect how you pay your taxes going forward. From 1st March 2020, the IRD will no longer be accepting cheques. There are still several payment methods available to you to pay your taxes as follows.

Pay Online using Internet Banking

  • Recommended method

Pay Online through MyIR

  • You can pay by credit or debit card, direct debit, either immediately or schedule for a future date. Login to your MyIR account, click on the ‘make payment’ tab of the relevant tax type and it will step you through the process.

Pay at Westpac Bank

  • Payment can be made over the counter at any Westpac branch around the country, by cash or EFTPOS. You do not need to be a Westpac customer to use this service. Please take a copy of your Payment Slip into the bank to be stamped for proof of payment. Please note from the 1st July 2020 you will need to have a barcode to ensure the payment can be allocated correctly. If not already on your return this can be generated from the IRD website.

The IRD have detailed information on their website, and a thorough bulletin https://www.classic.ird.govt.nz/campaigns/2019/cheques should you wish to know more.

Alternatively should you have concerns and wish to discuss the options available, or how we may be able to assist you, please do not hesitate to contact your accounting manager directly.
